2022 Indie Movies to get excited about
2022 looks like a great year for cinema given the calibre of some of the movies we’ve got coming out, particularly for wildly creative indie movies. Here’s a small sample of the stuff we’ve added to our watchlist for this year.

Everything Everywhere All At Once
A Chinese immigrant (Michelle Yeoh) is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led.
The Contractor
Chris Pine and Ben Foster re-unite following the excellent Hell or High Water (2016) for The Contractor. After being involuntarily discharged from the Army, James Harper (Chris Pine) joins a shadowy organization with his brother (Ben Foster) in order to support his family in the only way he knows how.
Men
A young woman (Jesse Buckley) goes on a solo vacation to the English countryside after the death of her ex-husband.
Alex Garland has shown himself to be a wildly creative writer and a very polished director. Distribution by A24 is itself a mark of quality and horror films set in the English countryside have a tendency to be a certain kind of fascinating.
Super Pumped
OK. It’s a TV show… but Joseph Gordon-Levitt is himself someone who is actively involved in the San Francisco tech scene as an entrepreneur and investor so this series about Uber-douche Travis Kalanick promises great things.
The Novice
A college freshman joins her university’s rowing team and undertakes an obsessive physical and psychological journey to make it to the top varsity boat, no matter the cost. Written and directed by Lauren Hadaway, based on her 2017 short Row and starring Isabelle Fuhrman the film took Best US Narrative Feature at Tribeca 2021. Fuhrman’s ‘explosive’ performance was awarded the Best Actress in a US Narrative Feature at the 2021 Tribeca too. Isabelle’s performance and the film have summoned critical acclaim and awards buzz.
